Vikings / Lewis Chessmen
In 1831, 78 chess pieces were found on the shores of the Scottish island of Lewis.
The originals are mostly carved from walrus ivory and are believed to originate from Trondheim (Norway), dated 1150-1200 AD.
Most of the figures can be admired today in the British Museum in London, the others are in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
A warrior or berserker standing, he carries a sword on his right side and a shield on his left side.
The figure is a replica, modeled after the original.
