Walnut liqueur "Loki's Revenge", 30% vol., 0.5 ltr. Bottle
This liqueur, made from walnuts, was named after the cunning Loki.
In his cunning and resourcefulness, Loki represents a prime example of the mythical rogue. He possesses a keen sense of strategy and uses it to advance his interests through intrigue and elaborate lies. Since Loki is half Aesir, half giant, his relationship with the Aesir appears ambivalent. Yet he is respected by Odin; the two even form a blood brotherhood. Furthermore, Loki helps Thor, through trickery, to recover his hammer Mjölnir, which had been stolen by the giants. Loki is thus both friend and foe of the gods. Only after he tricks Höðr into killing his brother Baldr does Odin banish him.
The giantess Sigyn bore him Narfi. Ali is born to an unknown mother and with the giantess Angurboda he fathers three enemies of the Aesir:
- The Midgard Serpent (Jörmungandaal), which will kill Thor, the friend of mankind, at the end of time.
- The goddess of death, Hel
- The wolf Fenrir (Fenris wolf), who will devour the god Odin at the end of the world.
Furthermore, he himself gave birth to Sleipnir (Odin's eight-legged horse): He transformed himself into a mare to lure Savadilfari, the giant's stallion tasked with building the gods' fortress, away from the construction site, thus preventing the giant from keeping the agreed-upon deadline. A few months after this event, Sleipnir was born. Loki presented the foal to Odin.
Above all, Loki is Baldr's enemy and Heimdall's archenemy. Loki, as a counselor, plays a part in the death of Baldr, the "enemy of all injustice," by inducing the blind Hödr to throw a mistletoe, as can be read in Baldr's dreams. With this act, Loki initiates the downfall of the world of the gods.
