Our ancestors considered the oak tree a sacred tree and enjoyed unrestricted protection. In Norse mythology, the oak was dedicated to the god Thor.
The oak symbolizes steadfastness, love of freedom, pride, strength, power, and glory, as the masculine aspect of the thunder god. Furthermore, the oak symbolizes our Indo-European ancestral mother, for she provided acorns as food for humans and animals.
The oak tree was considered a "tree of the gods" and therefore particularly sacred. Felling oak trees was severely punished, and oak groves were thus subject to strict protection.
