Orthoceras: a group of animals that belonged to the cephalopods - they were the closest relatives of the ammonites. The nautiloids ("straight-horned") lived in the sea with a cylindrical shell divided into segments. They moved using a "jet principle" in a horizontal position by drawing water in and expelling it. Their muscular grasping arms on their heads gave them their name. They were good and fast swimmers - but were considered cruel, carnivorous predators.
