Lucia the Goddess of Light - Candle Holder (large), artificial stone
Lucia made of artificial stone (polyresin), large version.
The Lucia festival in honor of the goddess of light Lucia is a long-standing custom and NOT of Christian origin.
It is celebrated in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, among other countries. The Lucia festival is also becoming increasingly popular in Germany.
The festival is celebrated on December 13th, which before the introduction of the Gregorian calendar was the shortest day of the year.
The Lucia festival is ultimately rooted in the tradition of older solstice celebrations.
The solstice celebrations, the burning fires at Ostara, High May, the summer and winter solstices, and at harvest time (equinox), are primarily of "Nordic" origin. The Germanic peoples also celebrated Yule as the birth festival of the sun, in which the sun was represented by large wheels; burning wheels were rolled down mountain slopes.
