Lewis Mini Chess Game board game with Lewis chess pieces
Hand-cast museum replica figures made of polyresin (artificial stone) with an antique look.
Replica of the Lewis Chessmen. The original chess pieces were found in 1831 on the Scottish "Isle of Lewis" and consist of a total of 78 chess pieces, hence the name. The island belonged to Norway at the end of the 12th century. The figures were probably made in Norway in 1150 and crafted from ivory, walrus tusks, and whale teeth. Due to the Vikings' active trade, chess was brought to Europe early on. It is presumed that a Norwegian merchant hid the figures on the island. The majority of the original figures are exhibited in the British Museum.
