Cheers! A toast to the Eifel! True to the motto "Every day without beer is a health risk," the people of this beautiful region gladly indulge in one after work. That one thing, of course, is the delicious beer—not just the famous one from the Southern Eifel known worldwide, but also the many delectable brews from smaller breweries, some even from monasteries. It could also be one of the flavorful wines from the vineyards along the Ahr and Moselle rivers. And woe betide anyone who enhances the enjoyment with a good fruit brandy, of which there are so many in the region!
On his wanderings through the Eifel region, the author encountered customs and rituals that will make readers of this new little book smile or laugh out loud. He aims to entertain with his descriptions of real life and doesn't criticize anyone; quite the contrary, he takes the liberty of quoting the sometimes boisterous, comical, quirky, occasionally illogical, but always witty toasts that are shouted out in the evenings by people who speak softly and quietly during the day. And if the book is used as a source of inspiration for quoting from it in the pub, all the better: then you can claim it's a guidebook!
